My Glamping Journey: From Teacher to Glamping Entrepreneur
Well, hello there! If you’re here, you’re probably intrigued by the world of glamping, and let me tell you, you’re in for a treat. My name is Chris Jeub, but online, I go by the Glamping Guy. Today, I want to take you on a journey—a journey that started with humble beginnings and transformed into something beyond my wildest dreams.
Let’s rewind the clock to 2019. I was a public school teacher, earning a modest salary while trying to make ends meet for my big family. But like many passionate educators, I loved what I did. However, financial struggles were a constant companion.
It wasn’t until my wife and I decided to remodel our bedroom that things took an unexpected turn. Living in our backyard tent during the renovation sparked an idea—why not rent it out on Airbnb? Little did we know, that decision would be the catalyst for our glamping adventure.
Fast forward to 2020, the year of COVID-19. With extra time on our hands, we expanded our backyard glamping operation, and the response was overwhelming. By 2021, we were fully invested, adding more tents and container homes to our property.
But with success came challenges. I found myself navigating a maze of regulations and opposition from neighbors. “Yellow Jackets” (government officials) became frequent visitors, and legal battles ensued. However, perseverance paid off, and in 2022, we secured our special use permit, legitimizing our business.
With each passing year, our earnings grew exponentially, culminating in a remarkable $240,000 in 2023. What began as a side hustle had evolved into a thriving business venture. But it wasn’t just about the money—it was about sharing the joy of glamping with others.
That’s why I launched GlampingGuy.com, a platform where I could teach others how to enter the glamping industry. As a teacher at heart, I wanted to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools they needed to succeed.
Now, as I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded of three crucial considerations for anyone venturing into the world of glamping: safety, legality, and profitability. Building a safe and legal operation is essential for long-term success, while profitability ensures sustainability.
So, if you’re intrigued by the idea of turning your property into a glamping haven, I encourage you to explore the possibilities. With dedication, creativity, and a passion for hospitality, you too can embark on a glamping journey of your own.
As for me, I’m excited to continue sharing my expertise and experiences with fellow glamping enthusiasts. After all, there’s nothing quite like the joy of waking up to the sounds of nature in your own backyard paradise.
Until next time, happy glamping!
